Making Life Delicious Since 1983

We All Scream for Ice Cream!

  • 1 gallon zippered plastic bag, per person
  • 1 sandwich size zippered plastic bag, per person
  • 1/2 cup half and half, per person
  • 1 Tbsp sugar, per person
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract, per person or 1/4 tsp of Bickford Flavor
  • 1/3 cup rock salt or kosher salt, per person
  • ice, approx 3 cups, preferably crushed

  • Fill gallon bag half way with crushed ice.
  • Add half & half, sugar, vanilla and flavor to a small zippered bag. Smoosh to combine ingredients.
  • Zip the small milk zippered bag closed, removing as much air as possible.
  • Add kosher salt into large bag with ice.
  • Place smaller bag with liquid inside larger bag and remove as much air as possible and zip closed.
  • Shake or toss bag for 5-10 minutes until the ice cream sets up.
  • Remove smaller bag from larger bag and squeeze ice cream into a bowl or grab a spoon and enjoy right out of the bag.

Missouri Life Magazine has some great ideas for day trips and staycations. Bring the ingredients along and make on a camping trip (as long as you have ice along), a hot Summer day as a kid activity, or even at a Family Reunion or outside BBQ. You can set out the ingredients and each person can assemble and shake their own.
